MERLOT Awards: Service to MERLOT - 2009 Volunteer Awards

The Volunteer of the Year Award honors the hard work and generous donation of our members’ time, energy and enthusiasm that they direct towards the growth and development of MERLOT. These individuals do not receive any support from our partners for completing these responsibilities.  We really rely on our Peer Reviewers to help expand the MERLOT collection and perform the Peer Review process.  These individuals are nominated by the Editorial Boards and then selected by our Project Directors. This year we were able to award three Volunteer of the Year Awards to individuals who are not supported by one of our academic partners, but who continue to provide service to MERLOT.  All three recipients served on a panel for a presentation at the MIC entitled, “Peer Reviewing for MERLOT:  How You Can Get Involved.”

DSCN0537.JPGJeanne Sewell (Georgia College and State University) The MERLOT Director of Academic Partner Services had this to say about Professor Sewell:

“She has been a great champion of MERLOT and has directed the efforts of more than 41 volunteer Peer Reviewers.  She works with our peer reviewers and has worked with directing the Peer Review efforts of the Health Sciences Editorial Board. She is a role model for other Editors and can always be depended upon to take on additional responsibilities and adds a great deal to the camaraderie of the Editorial Board.”

DSCN0538.JPGBob Sproule (University of Waterloo) is a Peer Reviewer in the Business discipline.  The Associate Editor for Accounting had this to say about Professor Sproule:

“He composes exceptionally thorough reviews that are well written.  Many of the modules I’ve assigned to him are quite lengthy and require a substantial time commitment.”
