MERLOT Repository
The MERLOT repository is not only learning materials, but assignments, comments, personal collections and snapshots, all designed to enhance the teaching experience of an learning material. The learning materials are categorized into 12 different learning material types. A large selection of materials in MERLOT also have assignments and comments attached to them. It is also possible to add any material to a personal collection, to make organizing your teaching materials for each of your courses. Snapshots have also been created for some materials to provide more depth to a material, by the author of the material.
Assignments
Assignments
are projects, papers, or activities that can be part of the coursework for a class. Assignments are linked to a learning module in MERLOT and may involve only that learning object or may involve other activities as well. In writing the Assignment, the contributor describes the type of activity (i.e. in-class, homework assignment, individual assignment, group, etc) as well as the time involved. The contributor also can identify objectives for the assignment as well as any assessment activities. You can also do an advanced search in MERLOT to find only learning materials that have an assignment submitted.
Comments
Comments
are observations of individuals who have either used the module or just reviewed it. Any Member of MERLOT can make a Comment. The contributor of the Comment is asked to rate the module from one to five stars and is also asked to indicate if it has been used in the classroom. A Comment requires remarks as well as the star rating. As with assignments, materials that have member comments posted can be found through an advanced search in MERLOT.
Personal Collections
Personal Collections help personalize the MERLOT collection for Members. A Personal Collection is a compilation of MERLOT modules that MERLOT Members can access easily to use for specific purposes, classes or topics. The owner of the Personal Collection can annotate each collection to more easily explain the purpose of it.
Snapshots
MERLOT From the Author Snapshots are a way for authors of learning materials to publish short, online articles about the development and use of their learning materials. From the Author Snapshots are a joint project with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, a leader in creating and studying innovation in higher education.
